Gun Rights

Admiral Yamamoto reportedly advised the Japanese government not to invade America because "there would be a rifle behind every blade of grass." Yamamoto's fear is our vision for gun rights in America. Gun ownership and self defense are fundamental aspects of traditional American culture. Law-abiding citizens should be encouraged and trained to own and properly use at least a pistol and a rifle. Nationalism largely agrees with the approaches of conservatives and especially libertarians on this issue.

The second amendment should be interpreted much more broadly to protect the fundamental right of self-defense of every American citizen, and states should be given significant leeway to expand on them. The vast majority of gun crime is committed with illegal weapons[1], gun bans increase homicide rates[2], and when a given population owns more guns, crime predictably reduces[3]. The real motivation for gun restriction is not safety but to control the population, and legal gun ownership has many benefits to society. The BATF should be replaced by state bodies, and small arms should be largely unregulated.
